Muay Thai is a style of kickboxing and the national sport of Thailand. The basic offensive techniques in Muay Thai use hands, elbows, kicks and knees to punch and kick the opponent. To hinder an opponent for both offensive and defensive purposes, small amounts of stand-up grappling are used: the clinch. Defensively, the shoulders, arms and legs are used to thwart the attacker from successfully executing his techniques. Almost all techniques in Muay Thai use the entire body movement, rotating the hip with each kick, punch and block.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend himself against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique. The Gracie family, the founders of BJJ, modified judo and traditional Japanese jujutsu to create the art. It contains stand-up maneuvers, but it is most famous for its devastating ground-fighting techniques. Gaining superior positioning—so one can apply the style’s numerous chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations on an opponent—is the key in BJJ.  -

At Revelation Martial Arts and Fitness our focus is maintaining the highest level of instruction in BJJ. BJJ is known as the most effective martial art in the world, although it is relatively new by martial arts standards. Today, in any reality-fighting tournament 99% of the competitors will have a certain level of knowledge in BJJ. Why? Because it’s been proven time and time again to work. We train with a partner almost all the time. In doing so, you quickly learn what works and what does not against an opponent who is resisting. We emphasize technique and position. Proper technique and good position will dictate the outcome of a fight whether in competition or on the street. BJJ is easy and fun to learn, but takes hard work, discipline and dedication to master.

Revelation is proudly affiliated with Ottawa Academy of Martial Arts (OAMA)/Team Renzo Gracie Ottawa (OAMA).
